Therapeutic Recreation, Life Enrichment & Activities

Therapeutic Recreation and Resident Activities

At Silver Springs Care Center, meaningful activity is an important part of quality of life. Our Therapeutic Recreation team provides a wide variety of programs, activities and experiences designed around the interests, abilities, backgrounds and preferences of the people who live in our community.

Recreation programming is available seven days a week and includes opportunities for social connection, creativity, movement, entertainment, personal interests and community involvement.

Person-Centered Recreation

Everyone has different interests.

Our recreation team gets to know residents individually, learning about their hobbies, routines, cultural backgrounds, favorite activities and the things that have brought them enjoyment throughout their lives.

Resident feedback and suggestions help shape our activity calendar, allowing programming to evolve based on the interests of the people who live at Silver Springs.

Residents can choose from group programs, smaller activities and individual engagement based on their interests and preferences.

Something for Everyone

Activities at Silver Springs are designed to provide opportunities for residents with a wide range of interests and abilities.

Programs may include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Live music and entertainment
  • Exercise and movement
  • Cooking and food-related activities
  • Games and group activities
  • Holiday and seasonal celebrations
  • Religious and spiritual services
  • Cultural programs and celebrations
  • Resident shopping
  • Community outings
  • Clubs and special-interest groups
  • Individual activities and one-to-one visits

Programming changes throughout the year based on resident interests, seasonal opportunities and community events.

Staying Connected to the Community

Life at Silver Springs extends beyond our walls.

When appropriate, residents have opportunities to participate in outings and community activities. These experiences provide a change of scenery, opportunities for socialization and a way for residents to remain connected to the larger community.

We also bring the community into Silver Springs through entertainers, visitors, volunteers, community organizations and special events.

Celebrating Individual Backgrounds and Traditions

Our residents bring different cultures, traditions, languages, experiences and interests to the Silver Springs community.

Therapeutic Recreation seeks opportunities to recognize and celebrate those differences through food, music, holidays, cultural programming and resident-led activities.

Programs such as Spanish Club, religious services and cultural celebrations provide opportunities for residents to maintain connections with traditions and communities that are meaningful to them.

Resident Voice and Choice

Residents don’t simply participate in life at Silver Springs—they help shape it.

Resident Council provides a forum for residents to share feedback, discuss issues important to the community and make suggestions about life at Silver Springs.

Residents can also provide input on dining and food preferences through the Food Committee and communicate activity interests directly to our Therapeutic Recreation team.

This ongoing feedback helps us develop programs and experiences based on what residents actually want.

Recreation for Residents with Different Needs

Our team adapts activities so residents can participate in ways that are appropriate and meaningful for them.

For individuals living with dementia or cognitive changes, activities may be modified to emphasize familiar experiences, sensory engagement, music, movement and individual interests.

Residents with physical limitations can participate in activities adapted to their abilities, while those who prefer quieter or more independent routines can receive individual engagement and activity options.

The goal is not simply participation. It is providing each resident with opportunities for enjoyment, connection, choice and a sense of purpose.

Therapeutic Recreation at Silver Springs

Whether someone is at Silver Springs for short-term rehabilitation or makes our community their long-term home, we believe there should be opportunities to stay engaged with the people, activities and interests that matter to them.

Our Therapeutic Recreation team works alongside nursing, social services, rehabilitation and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support each resident’s social and emotional well-being as part of their overall care.
